Summer of 2002.

Cindy Olsen and her parents drove down the windy road to the Filan's farm. Their parents had been friends but the Olsen's moved 5 years before and it was their first time back. As they pulled into the dive way they were greeted by Peter and Mae Filan. Cindy's parents hugged them and they exchanged greetings. She slowly got out of the back seat and saw Shane riding a horse in the open field. They helped them with their bags and showed them their rooms in the guest house. As the Olsens and Filans caught up Cindy went to look around. Everything brought back memories of her childhood crush on Shane. He had always thought of her as a little girl but now she really didn't care what he thought. She had grown up a lot and was extremely mature for her age, 15. Even her appearance had changed she looked older then she really was. As she reached the field she noticed Shane was still there riding around so she walked long the wooden fence getting a better look at him. He had gotten better looking; well in her opinion she hadn't seen him in 5 years. Shane spotted her and rode over to her. 'If it isn't little Cindy Olsen all grown up?' He said grinning. She blushed and looked at the ground. 'We have some catching up to do. Meet me at the stables in an hour.' With that he road off and she continued with her walk. She met him an hour later and they caught up on what was new in each of their lives. 'Your group is great I have all the CDs and I saw a few concerts.' 'Well...what did you think?' 'They were great. All my friends love you guys.' 'When we have a concert in your area I'll get you tickets and backstage passes. How have you been? You look so different.' 'It has been 5 years.' 'I know but I saw the school picture your parents sent and even that looks different.' She blushed slightly and looked away. 'I wish I could stay more of the summer but in a few weeks I'm leaving for the US.' 'You are?' She asked sadly. 'Yea, but don't worry we can spend time together before I go and we can keep in touch.' She nodded. 'Let's go for a walk and catch up on everything.' She followed him as they started with when she left. After a few hours they were caught up on everything and that night she went to a meeting with the other lads and their management. After the meeting they walked around Sligo for a bit before heading back to Shane's house.
They were laying on his bed watching a movie 2 days later when Shane took her hand. 'Cindy, I want to tell you something.' 'What is it, Shane?' 'Well...umm. I know I shouldn't say this or feel this but I think I'm in love with you.' He said lowering his eyes to the floor. 'Shane, wow. I can't believe this.' 'God, I've just ruined everything.' He said getting up and moving to the other side of the room. 'No-no you didn't ruin anything. I feel that same but I was afraid it would never work.' He finally looked at her. 'Shane, it's ok I didn't expect a relationship with the age gap and all.'
'Cindy, don't say that. We could make it work if we really wanted.' 'But my parents-' 'I'm sure mine wouldn't be thrilled either.' He said sitting on a chair. 'We don't have to tell them right away. We could see if it works out then talk to them about it.' 'I don't know, we should be honest.' 'Fine, let's go talk to them and see how they take it.' Cindy hurried down the stairs and Shane went after her. Al of their parents were sitting in the living room watching an old home video of when Cindy was a baby and Shane was 6 or 7. 'Mom, Dad, what would you think if I dated Shane?' 'Nice joke hunny.' Her father said laughing. 'Peter, Mae, what would you think?' Cindy asked as Shane's mouth fell open. 'That's crazy. Shane, aren't you dating Gillian?' Cindy looked to him as tears fell from her eyes. She hurried outside and ran into a small wooden area and Shane ran after her. 'Shane, leave me alone.' She said coldly turning her shoulder so he couldn't see her cry. 'Cindy, Gillian and I-' 'I don't care. We can't be together and I'm sorry for saying what I did.' She said breaking out into a run again. For the next 2 weeks Cindy avoided Shane and found out he broke up with Gillian causing a fight in the group and delaying their trip for another 2 weeks. Shane left flowers in her room with an apology along with her favorite candy and a big teddy bear. She put them in his room without looking at them. One night she laid in bed listening to the radio when she heard his voice. 'Hello Shane, this is a surprise.' 'I need to send a message out to a very special girl who I hurt. I won't say her name but she knows who she is. I really do love you and I'm sorry for not explaining everything.' 'Are you talking about Gillian Walsh?' 'No, but I'm sorry for hurting her too. This girl has been in my life ever since I was 6 and she is an angel.' 'I'm sure this will make it up to her.' 'Can I sing something to her?' 'Go right ahead.' Shane started singing 'Angel' and by the end he was in tears. 'I really do love you, and please forgive me.' 'That was Shane Filan of Westlife making a plea to the girl he loves. Hunny you're a lucky girl.' She shut off the radio and went to his room. She was laying on his bed and soon fell asleep. Cindy jumped up when she heard the door open.
'Shane, I'm sorry. I never listened to you.' She said hugging him. 'No, I'm sorry for not telling you. But I talked to our parents and they said it was ok for us to date.' 'But we only have a week.' 'A week here but your coming with me to the US until you have to return for school.' She hugged him and gave him a kiss on the cheek. 'Shane, I'm sorry.' 'That's all in the past. Don't worry let's focus on the future.' 'Well...umm. You're the first guy I've ever dated.' She said looking down blushing. 'Cindy, don't be embarrassed.' He said lifting her chin. 'We can move at your speed ok?' She nodded. 'You better get some sleep.' 'Yes, thank you for the song. It's my favorite.' 'I know your mom told me that's why I sang it.' 'See you in the morning.' She got up and went to her room and fell asleep dreaming of Shane. Shane sat away for a little while thinking about everything that happened. He thought about what he could do for her to make their first date special and when he got an idea he finally went to sleep. The next morning Cindy got up then took a shower and got ready. When she went downstairs everyone was silent waiting to see what she would say.
'Thanks everyone.' 'For what?' 'Being understanding.' 'Hunny, we trust you and Shane.' Her mother said sipping her coffee. 'Thanks.' She said hugging her parents then Shane's parents. Shane had already been up for awhile and went to set up everything for that night. That night Shane took Cindy to a nice restaurant with a candle light dinner. A week later they were on a plane going to the US; happy as ever. 6 months later Shane asked Cindy to marry him and with their parents permission they got married the following summer on Shane's birthday.
